How Mutua handles your information

Written for members, not lawyers. Last updated 16 October 2026.

Who has your details, and why

Your name and phone number are in Mutua because an administrator of your group added them. Mutua records what you contribute so that you and your group's administrators can both see the same numbers.

Mutua is the record. It is not a bank and never holds your money; contributions move through your group's own account.

When Mutua's own staff can see your records

Mutua's staff cannot browse your group's records. To help with a problem, someone from Mutua has to open a support session for your group: they write down the reason, it lasts a set time, and it ends by itself.

Most of those visits are read only. Everything done during one is recorded, and your group's administrator can see every visit and the reason for it on their Activity page.

What is kept

  • Your name, phone number, and any member number your group uses
  • What you were expected to contribute, and what was recorded as paid
  • Any late fees applied, and whether they were waived
  • The payment reference you send when you report that you have paid
  • Messages you exchange with Mutua on WhatsApp

Who can see it

Your group's administrators and treasurers can see your records for that group. Other members cannot see your balance, your phone number or your evidence.

Some groups, usually rotating savings groups, choose to show all members a simple list of who has paid this round. That list shows names only: never amounts, never balances, never phone numbers.

WhatsApp messages

Mutua messages you about your own contributions: when one is due, when one is overdue, when a payment is confirmed. You can stop these at any time by replying STOP, and start them again by replying START.

WhatsApp is operated by Meta, which processes your phone number and the content of those messages in order to deliver them.

Visits to the website

If you agree, the public pages of mutua.ng (the homepage, sign in, sign up, this notice and the terms) use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages are useful. It sets cookies and records things like your browser, device, rough location and the pages you viewed. Nothing is set until you say yes, and saying no changes nothing else on the site.

It is never loaded inside the dashboard, and it never receives your group, contribution or WhatsApp records. Your answer is kept in your own browser. You can change it at any time: .

Your rights

Under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 you may ask for a copy of your information, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be deleted.

Deletion has one limit worth being straightforward about: where your contributions form part of a group's financial records, the amounts stay in the group's ledger with your personal details removed. Otherwise deleting one member would change what everyone else's records add up to.

Mutua is a product of Branditude Limited, a company registered in Nigeria, which is responsible for the information described here. Ask your group administrator, or write to us directly at hello@mutua.ng.

How long it is kept

For as long as your group is using Mutua, and for a period afterwards so that a group returning to its records can still find them. After that it is deleted.
